Frequently Asked Dentistry Questions

At Spring Dentist, we understand that navigating dental topics and services on your own can be a little overwhelming at times. That’s our team has compiled some of the most frequently asked dentistry questions we receive below and their answers for added convenience. If you don’t see the information you’re looking for on this page, don’t hesitate to contact us as well! One of our doctors or staff members will take the time to help you feel well-informed about the topic at hand so that you can pursue future treatment with confidence.

How often should I visit the dentist’s office?

In most cases, we recommend scheduling a dental checkup and cleaning every six months on average, or twice each calendar year. These routine visits allow us to better understand your oral health needs and pinpoint any concerning signs as soon as they arise in the teeth and gums, potentially preventing more extensive procedures down the road.

If there are issues present that require more diligent attention (such as gum disease or extensive tooth decay), scheduling cleanings every three to four months instead may be the right choice. Our team will be sure to let you know if we think you fit into this category!

What’s the best way to replace missing teeth?

In most cases, Dr. Kuykendall strongly recommends dental implants! Unlike traditional prosthetics, implants replace the entire structure of a natural tooth (root included), resulting in a sturdy, long-lasting foundation that feels virtually indistinguishable from the original. Better yet, they’re designed to last for several decades at a time or even the rest of the patient’s life.

That said, our team understands that no one treatment is the right fit for every single person. We can also help you explore other options for reliable tooth replacement, including dentures and bridges.

Do you treat dental emergencies?

Yes! When patients are struggling with dental pain or experiencing a damaged tooth, our dentists will make every effort to welcome them in for relieving care right away. In many cases, we can even accommodate same-day appointments. Don’t wait – contact us in Spring, TX today.

I’m afraid of the dentist’s office. Can you help?

Dental phobia is a common problem among patients from all walks of life, which is why Spring Dentist offers calming sedation dentistry to take the edge off negative emotions. Both nitrous oxide (“laughing gas”) and oral conscious sedation are available upon request, both of which are designed to create a calm, comfortable atmosphere throughout procedures while patients remain aware enough to respond to our team’s questions. You can enjoy a healthier, happier smile without any unnecessary stress!

I want a straighter smile. Are metal braces my only option?

Not at all. At Spring Dentist, we offer both Invisalign Clear Braces and ClearCorrect as ideal alternatives for patients who are want to maintain their confident appearance throughout the treatment process instead of struggling with a “metal mouth.” Both systems consist of clear aligners that slide easily into place over teeth and are very subtle; their removable nature also makes it easy to continue enjoying all of your favorite foods.

My gums bleed when I brush and floss. Should I be worried?

Bleeding of any kind is usually not a good sign. In this case, it likely indicates the presence of gum disease, which is an infection that can quickly grow out of control and threaten healthy teeth. At Spring Dentist, we offer dedicated periodontal screenings and therapy options to help reverse the consequences of gum disease and get your smile back on the right track! Be sure to contact us as soon as possible if you notice this symptom on a routine basis.

Do you take dental insurance?

Spring Dentist is an in-network provider for several major PPO insurance plans available throughout Houston. If you’d like to learn more about your financial options as our patient, don’t hesitate to visit the Patients Page or contact us directly.
