What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, strong shells that are custom-created to fit over the front-facing surfaces of your teeth. Because of the materials used, they can mimic the look of your natural enamel by reflecting light. They’re also gentle on your gum tissue. Once they’ve been permanently cemented to your natural teeth, they can conceal a variety of flaws and change the shape, size, and color to create a seamless and complete smile. The procedure typically takes place over the course of two appointments with your cosmetic dentist.
Benefits of Veneers

Veneers offer patients a laundry list of benefits they cannot receive with other cosmetic treatments. Some of these advantages include:
- A natural appearance that blends in with the rest of your teeth.
- Each veneer is custom-crafted.
- Dental materials are stain-resistant.
- Gentle on the gums.
- Veneers fix a variety of cosmetic flaws with one solution.
- Boost your confidence.
The Process of Getting Veneers

During your first visit, we’ll prepare your teeth to receive the permanent veneers by removing a small amount of your natural enamel. This is to compensate for the thickness of the shells so that they lay flush with the rest of your teeth and don’t protrude from your mouth. Next, we’ll take impressions and send the 3D images to the dental laboratory. Finally, we’ll place temporary veneers until you come back for your next appointment, so you can get used to the way they feel.
Once we receive your permanent veneers from the dental laboratory, we’ll schedule your last visit. After taking off your temporary veneers, we’ll begin to cement the permanent ones to your natural teeth. Dr. Kuykendall will make any final adjustments, polish them, and then you’ll be all set!
When you walk out of our dental office feeling confident with your newly transformed smile, you’ll understand just how priceless veneers are. With proper maintenance, you can enjoy brighter and healthier-looking teeth for years to come. Contact us today to start your journey towards a more confident you!
Understanding the Cost of Veneers

After learning all about the process and benefits, patients often ask, “How much does it cost?” While we can’t give you an estimate without learning about your unique dental needs and smile goals, we can share some important information regarding the process and how you can make your smile transformation more affordable. So, read on!
Cost vs. Cosmetic Dentistry: What's Right For Me?

Whether small chips, permanent stains, or another dental imperfection is making you feel self-conscious, it’s important to consider both the cost of veneers and other popular treatments. That way, you make an informed decision on what is best for your smile and your wallet in the short and long term. With this in mind, here is some important cost-related information about braces, teeth whitening, direct bonding, and veneers:
- Braces – Mild cases of crooked, spaced-out, and otherwise misaligned teeth can be corrected with braces or veneers. While both traditional braces and discreet alternatives like Invisalign are certainly effective, they leave other aspects of your teeth (like the color and shape) untouched. So, if you want to improve more than just the position of your teeth, veneers may be the better choice for you.
- Teeth Whitening – Although it comes with a higher upfront investment, professional teeth whitening is far superior to over-the-counter whitening products. The only “downside” is that this treatment cannot address moderate or severe dental discoloration. Fortunately, veneers can! Therefore, veneers might be a better investment to get the gorgeous, white teeth you desire.
- Direct Bonding – Direct bonding is incredibly versatile since it can fix one tooth or completely upgrade your smile. While it’s one of the most cost-effective options upfront, it doesn’t last for well over a decade as veneers do. As a result, veneers are likely the best option for your wallet in the long run.
- Veneers – In addition to being custom-made for each patient, veneers can improve the size, shape, and shade of your teeth. Furthermore, they can fix one tooth, a few, or an entire arch. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that they can last for 10+ years with best practices in place, like implementing a solid at-home oral hygiene routine and visiting your dentist every six months for a checkup and cleaning.
How to Make Veneers Affordable

If you’re worried about the cost of veneers in Spring, don’t be. Although dental insurance rarely covers treatments that aren’t medically necessary, there are other ways you can lower your out-of-pocket expenses. The first is CareCredit, which is a trusted third-party financier. With them, you can pick a payment plan that works with your monthly budget instead of paying for the entirety of your treatment upfront. Additionally, we have an in-house membership plan and periodic special offers. To learn more about these financial solutions, simply get in touch with our team!
Veneer FAQs
Are Veneers Permanent?
Since veneers will have to be replaced eventually, they’re not considered a permanent cosmetic solution. However, the process of getting them is irreversible. At your first appointment, Dr. Kuykendall will remove a thin layer of enamel to ensure the veneers fit properly on the teeth. Unlike hair and nails, the enamel will never grow back once it’s removed. Because of that, the prepared teeth will always need to be covered by restorations like crowns or veneers.
Will I Still Be Able to Drink Coffee with Veneers?
It’s important to note that veneers are stain-resistant – not stain-proof. Because the material used is nonporous, the staining particles in dark-colored foods and drinks have more difficulty penetrating the surface. Therefore, you can enjoy a cup of joe without worrying too much about it staining your veneers. Of course, excessive consumption of any dark-colored beverage can still have a negative impact over time. At the end of the day, moderation is key!
Do Veneers Give You a Lisp?
When you first get veneers, you may have trouble pronouncing certain words or making specific sounds. Even though veneers are thin, the minimal difference in thickness still affects the way the tongue moves. Luckily, any temporary lisp you develop should go away after adjusting to your new smile. You can speed up the process by practicing the pronunciation of certain words, reading aloud, and having more conversations with loved ones. If needed, Dr. Kuykendall can reduce the thickness of the restorations in certain areas to make the impediment go away.
Can You Whiten Veneers?
Whitening treatments do not have any effect on veneers, even if they’re stained or discolored. If you want to restore the brightness of your smile, you’ll need to have your restorations replaced or shaded. Patients who are planning on having both whitening and veneers done should start with the whitening treatment. That way, the veneers can be color-matched to your teeth as they currently appear.
